C-TEC Youth Services can help you get a job! We rely on our partnerships with local businesses and organizations to create training programs, paid work experiences/internships, and work opportunities for C-TEC Youth Services. Our Career Advisors can help you get ready for a job, find a job, get a job, and keep your job.

National Career Readiness Certificate

The National Career Readiness Certificate (NCRC) provides the opportunity to help youth graduate from high school, get a job, and earn college credit. The NCRC is a nationally recognized certificate that indicates a person’s ability in the areas of reading for information, applied mathematics, and locating information. Employers and job seekers both benefit from the NCRC, as it helps qualified employees stand out from the competition.

NCRC Benefits:

  • Prove your abilities in the areas of reading, math, and locating information
  • Use your reading and math scores to fulfill high school graduation requirements
  • Earn college credits with qualifying scores

How do I get the NCRC?

  • C-TEC Youth Services participants can check with their Career Advisor to find a location and time that is suitable to their needs.
  • Take the test through Clackamas Community College

What do I do with my National Career Readiness Certificate?

  • List your National Career Readiness Certificate on your resume as a credential
  • Register your NCRC online so future employers can verify your credential
  • Talk with your high school counselor about using your math and reading scores for graduation (Silver, Gold, and Platinum levels)
  • Register as a student at Clackamas Community College and receive college credits for Gold and Platinum level certificates

Resources

My Next Move: Provides three different ways to explore careers through one website sponsored by the US Department of Labor. You can search careers by using key words, browse careers by industry, and discover your interests through the O*NET Interest Profiler by answering a free 60 question assessment. Each search method will offer a one page description of an occupation highlighting important aspects and links to training and employment information. If you’re not sure what type of work is for you, try the O*NET Interest Profiler to help steer you in the right direction of careers that match your interests, values, and abilities accompanied by information about those career fields.

mySkills myFuture: Matches a worker’s occupational skills and experiences with the skills needed in other occupations. For any occupation, users can get a list of job listings in their local area (ie state or zip code) and click directly through to the hiring company’s website.  Also links to My Next Move and the O*NET Interest Profiler.

Oregon Career Information System (CIS): CIS is used by many area school districts, so you may already have a CIS account and profile.  You can sign in with the user name and password you were previously assigned, or if you’re new to CIS, WorkSource Oregon has paid for you to use this website.  Just enter the username: OED_Central and password: Central.Password1 to set up an account.

Career Coach Assessment:  Clackamas Community College provides an assessment similar to the O*NET Interest Profiler to help students match their interests with career fields.  Many of these career pathways can start at Clackamas Community College!

WorkSource Oregon is your one-stop career center and a proud partner of the American Job Center network. All services are free.  Both online and in person at a Worksource center you can:

  • Register in iMatchSkills, Oregon’s largest job database
  • Apply for jobs, sign up for trainings, develop a career plan and WorkSource Portfolio, and message WorkSource staff in My WorkSource
  • Get a one-on-one career coach
  • Match your interests and abilities to jobs you’d be good at and enjoy doing
  • Learn about free training to help you advance in your career or learn a new industry
  • Explore paid internships, apprenticeships, on-the-job training, GED programs, and college classes
  • Take part in workshops on resumes, interviewing, networking, soft skills, applying for state jobs, and more
  • Use computers, internet, phones, fax, copiers, and printers in our Resource Rooms
  • Get help with transportation, childcare, food, internet access, tuition, textbooks, school fees, identification, work clothes and tools, and more

Indeed: Indeed is comprehensive job search engine, helping to connect job seekers with employers.

Idealist: An interactive site where you can find people, organizations, groups, jobs, volunteer opportunities, events, and more.

JobDango: Job search engine that focuses on the Northwest companies and jobseekers.

Mac’s List: Jobs based in the Portland Metro area, with a specialization in non-profits, education, social services, and helping professions.  This site also offers a ton of different tools as well as internships and volunteer opportunities.
