For Fabiola “Fab” Maltos, helping children and families feel welcomed, supported, and connected is at the heart of everything she does.
As a bilingual home visitor in Clackamas Education Service District’s Head Start to Success free preschool program, Fab works closely with families to ensure young learners have a strong foundation before entering kindergarten. She is one of six bilingual home visitors on the family visiting team, helping create a sense of belonging for children and families in both schools and communities.
A key part of Fab’s work is prioritizing enrollment for families experiencing risk factors and supporting them with what she describes as “dignity, care, and respect.” She connects families with resources from schools and community organizations, including food assistance, services, and other supports that can help them thrive.
“Meeting families where they are at” is more than a philosophy for Fab. It is the way she approaches every interaction. She works to build meaningful relationships with families and students, ensuring they feel seen, valued, and supported throughout their early learning journey.
Many students and families know Fab from the Clackamas Early Learning Center, where she can often be found engaging with students, sharing a laugh, and bringing her signature sense of humor to the day. Her ability to connect with children helps create trusting relationships, especially for students who may need an extra advocate.
“I love working with kiddos,” Fab says. “Sometimes they need someone to speak up for them when they can’t speak up for themselves.”
Fab’s passion for early learning was inspired by her own kindergarten teacher, who played an important role during her childhood. That experience continues to shape the way she supports young learners today.
Above all, Fab wants children to enjoy coming to school and feel excited about learning. By supporting families, building connections, and helping children feel confident and welcomed, she is helping lay the foundation for successful transitions into school. She also helps families feel good about their children’s journey into school and the opportunities ahead.
Through her dedication, compassion, and commitment to children and families, Fab is making a lasting difference in the lives of the students she serves.
