Register your child for home schooling in Clackamas County

If you require assistance with online registration, please contact us at 503-675-4215 or info@clackesd.k12.or.us.

If you have previously registered your child for home school with Clackamas ESD, you do not need to notify us annually. Simply log in to the online home school registration system, and update your information as needed.

Not sure which school district you live in? Enter your address into the Clackamas County map tool, then select “Schools” from the menu of options that appears. You will see a list of the schools in your school district, with the school district name appearing directly under the school names.

If you register with the incorrect ESD/SD, your home school registration may be delayed.

Frequently asked questions

Under Oregon law, education service districts’ role in home schooling is limited. ESDs collect and verify notices of intent to home school, may request test results, and act as a general point of contact for families.

Please direct all questions about home schooling options, requirements and resources to the Oregon Department of Education and ODE's alternative education options specialist. Contact information is available on the ODE website.

State regulations require families to notify their resident education service district of their intent to home school. Clackamas ESD serves all of the 10 public school districts in Clackamas County. If you are unsure which ESD serves your area, you can use the interactive map at oaesd.org.

If you begin home schooling at the start of the school year, you must notify your ESD within 10 days of the school year’s start. If you begin home schooling mid-year, you must notify your ESD within 10 days of withdrawing your child from school.

To submit your notification, please register through our online home school registration system. Once your registration is completed accurately, you will have met the legal requirement for an alternative to compulsory school attendance. You’ll receive a confirmation email once your registration is complete, as long as you included an email address in your profile during registration.

The most efficient way to register is through our online home school registration system.

Clackamas ESD also accepts written notification of intent to home school. State regulations require families choosing to home school to include the following information when submitting their written notification:

  • Child's name and birth date
  • Parent's name, address, phone number (optional) and email address (optional)
  • Name of school child currently attends or most recently attended (if child has not attended school, provide name of school district in which child resides)

Submit written notification to:

Clackamas Education Service District
Attn: Home School Office
13455 SE 97th Ave
Clackamas, OR 97015

If you stop home schooling, please notify your ESD by logging into your online home school registration system account, unchecking the box labelled "Currently Homeschooled," entering the reason (required), and saving your changes.

Home school families select their own curriculum. You may use the Oregon Department of Education’s Academic Content Standards as a reference. Additional resources may be available through your local library, your resident school district (when offered), or home school groups in your area.

The Oregon Department of Education determines who qualifies as an approved tester. You may find a list of home school testers on the Oregon Department of Education’s website.
