Saturday, February 26, Clackamas Education Service District partnered with Clackamas County Public Health to facilitate a COVID-19 vaccination clinic at Ackerman Middle School in Canby focused on bringing the vaccine to Spanish-speaking families in the community.

Clackamas ESD’s Migrant Education Program team coordinated the site and event with the Canby School District, led the communication efforts with Migrant Education families, and provided support for families at the clinic. The Clackamas ESD safety team served on the planning committee and staffed the clinic to help with logistics, set-up, translation, and medical observation tasks.

More than 30 vaccines were administered and all attendees received a supply of at-home COVID test kits.

“The Migrant Ed Program focuses on eliminating barriers for Migrant students and families, and we know that COVID has affected the Migrant community disproportionately,” comments Will Flores, Migrant Education Program coordinator. “I am proud of the work that our Migrant team does every day, but this is just part of what we do.”

In addition to vaccines, representatives from Clackamas ESD’s Migrant Education Program, Bridging Cultures/Puentes Entre Culturas, the Earling Learning Hub, Clackamas County Children’s Commission, Todos Juntos, Head Start to Success, Oregon Department of Human Services and Northwest Family Services were available to share information about health, education and employment resources available to the families.
