Clackamas ESD has hired Jared Hayes as director of special education.

This is a homecoming of sorts for Hayes, who began his new position Aug. 1, 2021. He previously served in special education administration roles at CESD prior to taking leadership positions in the David Douglas School District, first as elementary special education administrator, and later as student services administrator.

As special education director, Hayes will oversee multiple services provided to CESD’s partner school districts, including the Life Enrichment Education Program and the Heron Creek Therapeutic Program. He succeeds Linda Eastlund, who retired as CESD director of special education July 31.

“We are delighted to welcome Jared Hayes back to Clackamas ESD in this leadership role,” said Ewan Brawley, CESD assistant superintendent. “Jared’s deep knowledge of our special education programs, coupled with his depth of experience in supporting students and staff teams in diverse environments, make him perfectly positioned to guide us forward. He has a passion for serving students experiencing learning challenges, as well as for collaborating with multiple partners to ensure the success of all children in our classrooms.”

“It’s an honor to return to Clackamas ESD and re-join a team completely devoted to helping students reach their full potential, no matter what challenges they face,” Hayes said. “Having worked in multiple school districts, I have an even better perspective on the importance of the special education services we offer to students, and the support we provide to families. I’m inspired by that mission and the potential we have to make an even greater impact on children’s lives.”

Hayes began his career as a school psychologist, and worked for school districts in Kentucky, Ohio and Oregon. He holds a B.A. in psychology from the University of Louisville, and an M.Ed. in school psychology from the University of Massachusetts at Boston.
